When and why did you start playing golf?
When I was 11, it was a family affair when I started I played because my dad and brother played. I think because Matt (my brother) was always better than me it made me quite competitive. I started out at a club in Sheffield called Hallowes, which had an amazing Junior section and membership, it seemed like there was hundreds of us.
What is your HCP?
I am scratch
Which is your favorite golf course?
My favourite course I have ever played is a tough one, I would have to say its between The Old Course at St Andrews and Castiligon Del Bosco in Tuscany, but I generally like Tom Weiskopf designed courses, but locally I really enjoy playing The Old course at Burhill.
Do you have a favorite coach you follow and why?
I would say I really like following Pete Cowen. Being from Sheffield he was always a coach I looked up to and hear lot about when growing up. He obviously has a number of the worlds best players and I like his approach to all aspects of the game.
I would also have to say that Gregor Brodie from Foxhills in Surrey has been the most influential person in my coaching career and style. He opened my eyes to the subtle use of technology to quantify everything and has helped me develop as a coach a lot more than any book could of.
Who is your favorite player and why?
Henrik Stensen, I respect him as a golfer and his mannerisms on the golf course. His approach to golf seems to come across that he always enjoys playing and thrives for the big stage.
What is your best golf related achievement?
Being part of the Surrey Ladies County Coaching team, which I personally believe is the best group of coaches. We have been together for a long period and have started to see a big change for the good of Ladies/Girls golf in the county.
As a golf coach, what is the most common mistake among players you see?
Most people having over analysed their shots and come with preconceptions on what they need to change. Usually all based on poor understanding of the ball flight they see and the characteristics it shows. It can be difficult to work with players who seem to know what’s wrong and how to fix it before they come and see you.
What are your greatest professional strengths?
I find having the ability to say one thing in 25 different ways to hopefully, It helps me coach a greater range of golfers.
What’s in your bag?
I am a bit of a tinkerer so its always changing but currently I have the following:
Driver – Yonex Tri G 445cc – 10 degrees (set to 8.5), Diamana Blue S+ 70g TX
Fairway – Yonex Tri G Ti 15 degrees, Fujikura MOTORE SPEEDER TOUR SPEC 7.2 TX

Putter- Odyssey Tri Hot Number 2, 33 inches with 2.0 Super Stroke

How often do you play golf yourself?
I try to keep competitive so look to play at least once a week and try to practice 1 area of my game each day. It’s a struggle finding the time being in such a busy environment like Hoebridge, but with all the facilities at my disposal there I can always find somewhere to practice.
What has changed since you started working with a TrackMan?
I feel my confidence has changed dramatically since working with TrackMan, it has helped me validate a lot if not all of the work I do in my coaching. It has allowed me to generate better and more detailed reviews for a lot of my clients meaning I can deliver a better service.
I personally have found it improves my own understanding of my own game, distances, shot patterns, dispersion of shots and the ability to highlight areas of weakness without emotion. I have always thought I was a poor driver of the ball, but in fact it’s my inability to put the ball close enough to the hole from 180yards and in. I use the Test Center a lot before and after each practice.
Which is your favourite TrackMan feature, and why?
The ability to sync the TrackMan with several cameras has given me the ability to use the overlay feature to great effect with all of my clients. Since then I have found people get a better understanding of the visual aspect of video feedback and factual data from the TrackMan.
I also like using the Optimizer when working of players drivers, it’s a clear way to show how changing impact factors can increase or decrease potential distance of a player.
How and where can golfers get in touch with you?
Most clients come to me through word of mouth, which works in my favour as it means they coming from a recommendation with positive mind-set before we even start.
Do you have any suggestions, how TrackMan can do better or differently?
I am 100% Apple geek so if I could run the TPS without having to use Parallels it would be much appreciated and make life a lot easer for me. But currently I can only say I am 100% happy with the system and can’t wait to see what the future in store for TrackMan.
