Coach Of The Month | 0 | by Christian Hahn
Coach of the month: Matthew Parry

Name:
Matthew Parry

Age:
40

Coaching at:
I am Director of Instruction at the Jason Floyd Golf Academy, San Roque, Spain

TrackMan User since:
I first started using TrackMan in 2010. We are now lucky enough to have two TrackMan 4’s at the academy!

When and why did you start playing golf?
Living only a stone’s throw from Holyhead Golf Club I started playing golf at 10 years old as I was accumulating boxes of balls that were hit over the fence!

What was your HCP when you turned Pro?
I turned pro off 0.6, it was pretty good in those days!

Which is your favorite golf course?
It’s a toss-up between Real Sotogrande and Loch Lomond.

Do you have a favorite coach you follow and why?
I follow lots of coaches, I will always continue learning from others and spend time researching various coaches theories. The coach that has influenced my career the most is Jason Floyd.

Who is your favorite player and why?
Tiger Woods, nobody has moved golf forward more than him! It is so impressive how he has come through all his issues to win the Masters this year, it is nothing short of spectacular! In my opinion the greatest golfer of all time!

What is your best golf related achievement?
Being part of the team that helped to create what the academy is today. Also helping students and coaches achieve goals that even they didn’t think they could achieve themselves! Whether that is winning a National event, gaining a scholarship to a prestigious university or even beating a personal best in a practice session!

As a golf coach, what is the most common mistake among players you see?
Younger students particularly tend to follow trends and worry too much about the look of their swing rather than relying on measured facts and what is functional.

What are your greatest professional strengths?
Hopefully, I have a few, I will need to ask my students that! I hope they say good knowledge, commitment, and communication.

What’s in your bag?
Driver – Titleist TS3
Fairway- Titleist 915 Fd
Irons – Titleist AP3
Wedges – Vokey SM7
Putter – Scotty Cameron Del Mar 3.5

How often do you play golf yourself?
After I stopped competing I now play socially a couple of times a month. Although I plan to play more this coming season!

What has changed since you started working with a TrackMan?
In short COACHING! since the introduction of TrackMan, coaches have been able to dismiss old myths and improve players more effectively and more efficiently. We just need to look at how much younger golfers or bursting into the limelight on the world’s professional tours.

Which is your favorite TrackMan feature, and why?
Wow, that’s a tough one! I use TM every day at the academy as it is such a versatile tool and I am proud to say I have used every feature available. I do love showing students the graphic of shot dispersion and helping them understand their percentage error and how to incorporate that info into improving their course strategy. But like the question “what is your favorite song?” The answer could change every day as there are so many good ones!!

How and where can golfers get in touch with you?

Do you have any suggestions, how TrackMan can do better or differently?
I would love to see the ‘Test Centre’ having the option for a team challenge
