When and why did you start playing golf?
I started playing golf when I was five years old. I fell in love with the game immediately. It was a passion of my dad’s and I followed suit. We would go out and play 9 holes almost every day when he came home from work.
What was your HCP when you turned Pro?
Plus 4
Which is your favorite golf course?
St. Andrews, Scotland
Do you have a favorite coach you follow and why?
Dana Dahlquist – I think he’s very knowledgeable and I enjoy how he uses social media to share his teachings and beliefs. His communication and delivery of information is excellent.
Who is your favorite player and why?
Rory McIlroy. I’m biased… I was a teammate of Rory’s when we played and represented Ireland together. I’m thrilled to see his success and I look forward to seeing him win many more events.
What is your best golf related achievement?
I represented Ireland at the World Cup of Golf “Eisenhower Cup” in Puerto Rico (2004). It is one of my proudest moments as a competitive golfer.
As a golf coach, what is the most common mistake among players you see?
The biggest mistake I see is golfers misdiagnosing their ball flight. They see a certain ball flight and misinterpret what they see, to compound the problem they apply the wrong correction and this makes the situation worse.
What are your greatest professional strengths?
I feel my strengths are communication and helping my students reach their goals. I feel that being able to help a student understand what’s causing their issues, breaking it down into something that is understood – and creating a roadmap to success is what I do best.
What’s in your bag?
I’m a TaylorMade staff player.
M4 Driver
M3 three metal.
M1 Hybrid
TM 790 3-PW
TM EF Spin Grove 54* & 60*.
Scotty Cameron Newport 2
How often do you play golf yourself?
I play once a week. I’d love to play more but my busy teaching schedule keeps me away too much
What has changed since you started working with a TrackMan?
It’s given me the ability to make better and more informed decisions about how to help a golfer improve. Based on the information that TrackMan measures and reports I can now make decisions based on facts and not make assumptions like I had to in the past. This gives me the ability to provide very accurate and factual information to my students, which in turn gives them a lot of confidence in my ability to help them.
Which is your favorite TrackMan feature, and why?
The ability to measure impact. I think when a student understands the relationship between face and path and the importance of a center strike… it’s a game changer.
