Swing faster and stop coming over the top

Drills | 8 | by TrackMan

Kyle Morris, named by Golf Digest as one of “America’s Best Young Instructors” shows why the use of ones chest too much in the swing can lead to coming over the top and a lack of speed.

Very good video. Why not illustrate the combination of chest and arms combined at the end?

Thanks. That would make for a great second video. On a short note, we want our hands to be at belt high with our knees square and chest a bit closed so that we can then rotate hard late and control the face through our pivot. Thanks for feedback

This has been my problem for 45 years, even when I was a 1 handicap! Great tip about turning back to target and then snap arms and wrist towards target while keeping back to target. Will get to range and practice! Thank you!

This is very interesting. I have been dealing with this over the top move since I started playing 20 years ago. I’m a thick-chested, muscular guy (using my big/big muscles). I am certainly going to try to integrate this into my training. Thanks so much.

Kyle, wanted share with you my experience after watching this video. as you can imagine, there are several instruction videos on addressing the over the top swing. i’ve always come over the top and had tons of advise form friends, instructors, etc. i watch your video and it immediately resonated with me. so much so, that i went out today to try it on the course for kicks, thinking i’m sure it will take time to train the muscles. i just started playing again and was shooting a 98-102 round each time, losing tons off the tee. Todays round, after holding my back to the target as long as possible allowing the swinging arms to pull me around: 83! true story! an 83! my best round ever. the first three holes i pulled the drive seriously off to the left creating blowup holes for my round, but i knew i was making solid contact vs the weak slice. the timing finally clicked on the fifth hole and i kept it in play and 30-40 yards further off the tee the rest of the round. i am still in complete awe at how well this worked. i shot a 39 on the front with the first three bad holes. must say that i now know what it’s like to create torque in my swing. i’ll stretch a lot more next time.

    THANKS!

Very interesting video. Never heard it described as you have, chest vs arms and wrists. Next time at the range I will try to swing isolating the two. I have a swing speed monitor but have not been able to increase my speed no matter how hard I swing. Probably too much chest!
